/n AAP in #DelhiElection2020 shows again that it is undisputed expert, in the art of merchandising hollow dreams and bartering them for real votes. After transforming Delhi in a polluted slum capital AAP successfully sold dream of Paris like Delhi backed by wave of free-soaps.
/n Setting up Narrative: Unlike 2015 AAP was not the crusader any more. First election AAP had to contest as political party not activists. AAP which totally failed on Swaraj, Jan Lokpal, donation transparency, leaving it to totally depending conventional politics of free-soaps.
/n To top it all, ticket to fraud degree lawyer Tomar’s wife compromised corruption, dynast, and high command free clean politics promise. In addition Free wifi, colleges, schools, hospitals, women safety, clean Yamuna, pollution free, Paris like Delhi all were broken promises.
/n Enormous examples of broken promises, corruptions both moral and material, loss of high ground were enough ammunition to take on and hold AAP feet to the fire. BJP failed miserably to capitalize on these weaknesses. Instead BJP attempted to set up a new out of sync narrative.
/n A narrative on national issues, despite of experiencing in Orisa Punjab MP etc. that such narrative fails in Assembly elections. A narrative that was solely depended on #ShaheenBagh and is only successful with English Speaking Social Media warriors and, news rooms TV debate.
/n Freebies turns out to be rather lucrative if narrative fails to:(1)create urgency for a change; (2)din't ask questions to those in power; (3)inspire hope and expectation;(4)kindle sensitivity of 37% who chose to stay at home over voting; and (4)provide innovative solutions.
/n A narrative only appealed to visionaries who see nigh possibility of caliphate and core, but is incomprehensible to masses who have misconception that freebies are free.

Failure to judge mass aspiration to generate a narrative that sticks and resonates costed BJP heavily.
/n Timing Starts Early: Shrewd Kejriwal, taking lesson from Modi 2019 campaign, where Direct Benefit Transfer kicked in before 2019 election, unperturbed by Model Code of Conduct (MCC), started his campaign months ahead of BJP, with free Bijli /Transport before MCC kicks in.
/n Erred, to the advantage of the AAP, BJP remained in misconception that 2019 General Election wave still persists. Wrongly overconfident, despite 2019 Orisa Assembly elections example, delayed selection of candidates. Resulting in restricting voter outreach of the candidates.
/n The delay may also be the result of internal politics. Desire to suppress revolt within party ranks resulting from denial of tickets could have been a reason for delay. Largest party of the world failed to balance the loss of votes due to: revolt and failure to reach voters.
/n Judging the Competition: BJP has a core strength of its cadre on the other hand AAP had much more appealing tool, its called accessibility. AAP MLAs, who would walk like commoners throughout 5yr tenure stayed in touch with the constituency, earned core dedicated volunteers.
/n One help say getting “Vidhwa Pension”, earned vote of entire family. Whereas BJP corporator needs a protocol before she appears in local event, where she reaches late with security guards, to find AAP MLA walking among crowd sipping tea cracking jokes. That’s the difference.
/n Leadership Deficit: Kejriwal, self styled supremo controlled AAP highhandedly, those who didn't fall in line were shown door, rather literally kicked. This instead of becoming liability became advantage as AAP had a face that could cleverly lie with confidence and impunity.
/n To counter/call out lies a face dynamic and inspirational, like @DrKumarVishwas is needed. Some may argue that @thekiranbedi experiment failed in 2015, that's not true, BJP bagged 34% votes in 2015. More so, since then no in house dynamic and inspirational leader is groomed.
/n Campaign: A campaign that fails to start timely, not able to set up a compelling narrative and lack local leadership is left with no other option than to fall back on the Star Power. Indeed, star campaigners energies core vote base, does it convert voters seating on fences?
/n Some may argue, star campaigners were counterproductive for targeting voter on fence as tone of campaign may have offended some target groups. Next Hope against all odds was #ShaheenBaghs consolidation, it did but not to cross threshold to kick 37% out of quilt for voting.
/n Heavy reliance on, non-existent Modi 2019 wave turned BJP cocky. Get out to Vote failed this time, booth Panna Pramukh entire machinery could get only 30% to vote till 3pm. Lower percentage of vote clearly showed failure of organization, outreach and cohesion.
/18 #DelhiElection2020 shall become a text book example of how not to engage in electoral politics and contest elections. Last but not the least some credit must be give to Kejriwal for not taking bate thrown at him and keeping his campaign straight without letting it derailed.
