Majuli, the largest river island in the world is situated in Assam. It is a fresh water island in the river Brahmaputra. It is a lushy island which huge flora and fauna and which attracts many tourists from the world! It is few kilometres away from Jorhat, Assam. 
It is the most ancient site for Assam Vaishnavites! It holds very strong tribal culture and is very mesmerising. It is therefore also called the land of culture in Assam.
It is a pollution free and environmental friendly destination. Raas Purnima is one of the most important festival celebrated in Majuli.
Monasteries constructed by the Assamese Saint Srimanta Sankardeva, still survive and depict the vibrant culture of Assam. Majuli Island is also a good place for birding, domestic and migratory birds can be found at this place.
