So, to defend Michael Bloomberg's redlining comments, the Times finds...a guy who just wrote a book claiming that the Civil Rights Act was a totalitarian disaster. Cool, cool. lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2020/01/regard…
Leaving aside the flagrant racism, imagine thinking that the Supreme Court that has dismantled the Voting Rights Act and invokes the equal protection clause only to stop modest integration measures and elect Republican presidents is a vehicle of racial egalitarianism!
So, in conclusion, a guy writes a book condemning the Civil Rights Act in the strongest terms, based on arguments that are almost surreally divorced from reality, and remains a Respectable Voice who can defend racist presidential candidates in the New York Tines. Just peachy.
Caldwell's entire book is based on a premise so transparently racist it compelled a Republican Senate minority leader to resign in disgrace
Caldwell is one of those pseudo-intellectual reactionary pundits who is frequently described as “thoughtful,” which is true insofar as the world he writes about exists solely in his own mind and is rarely contaminated with any actual facts
