This got cut from my Vox piece but note that John Roberts's routine of fake-minimalist assertions he's not overruling precedents he's plainly overruling is so disingenuous Scalia dunked on him over it: lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2009/07/minima… 
Anyway, what's important is not how Roberts (or whoever he assigns the opinion to) characterizes a holding's relationship to Roe, but how much leeway the holding gives states to restrict access to abortion reuters.com/article/us-lem…
Basically, the model to dismantle Roe will probably be what happened with campaign finance: reduce the controlling precedent to a nullity while making bad faith denials about what's happening, and then overrule it explicitly when it's required
