Donald Trump is the most corrupt President in modern US history. But Trump didn’t cause the rot in Washington – he’s just the biggest, stinkiest example of a system that no longer works for the people. That’s why this #PresidentsDay, I’m fighting for my bill to #EndCorruptionNow.
Presidents shouldn’t be able to own companies or hotels on the side & use their office to make a fortune. My bill to #EndCorruptionNow would require the President to place his/her assets, including businesses & commercial real estate, into a blind trust to be sold off.
My #EndCorruptionNow bill would make sure all govt employees – including unpaid White House staff, even family-member advisors to the President – are forced to comply with govt ethics & conflict of interest rules.
The President also shouldn’t be able to put his or her lobbyist friends in charge of running federal agencies. My bill to #EndCorruptionNow slams shut the revolving door so no more coal & gas lobbyists can be put in charge of protecting our clean air & water.
Former Presidents & other Washington bigwigs shouldn’t be able to cash in on their connections with high-powered lobbying jobs. My bill to #EndCorruptionNow would place a lifetime ban on lobbying by fmr Presidents (& VPs, members of Congress, federal judges, & cabinet members).
And we shouldn’t have to beg presidential candidates to see their financial interests. That’s why my bill to #EndCorruptionNow would require the IRS to release tax returns for Presidential candidates from the previous 8 years & during each year in federal office.
Outside of Washington, my bill to #EndCorruptionNow seems like a no-brainer. Most people are probably shocked these rules aren’t already the law. But if we want to restore integrity to the Office of the President, we need to fight for real change to make it happen.
