Bernie Sanders says he’s against nuclear because we don’t know what to do with the waste

It’s a lie

- “waste” from nuclear is the only energy waste we have a solution for

- solar produces 300x more waste & it’s dumped on African nations

- wind turbine waste going to landfills
"The lithium batteries in solar lanterns are difficult to recycle. They are often dumped or even burned with other trash... Rooftop solar systems connect to lead acid batteries that last five to eight years if properly maintained, and then are discarded"

nytimes.com/2019/05/12/cli…
"While most of a turbine can be recycled or find a second life on another wind farm, researchers estimate the U.S. will have more than 720,000 tons of blade material to dispose of over the next 20 years, a figure that doesn't include taller versions."

Nuclear waste is already safely contained

All of it can fit on a single football field stacked 50 feet high

Here's me with *all the used fuel rods* from Arizona's @aps plant since 1985.

It shows why nuclear has the smallest environmental footprint
And in ~100 years, future nuclear reactors at the same site will likely recycle the "waste" as fuel

In 1994, @billclinton @algore killed the US nuclear reactor program that recycled waste

Meanwhile, the Russians are racing ahead

"One of the biggest problems with solar panel waste is there is so much of it. And that won't change for a basic physical reason: sunlight is dilute and diffuse and thus require large collectors to capture and convert the sun's rays into electricity"

@Aps The photo was taken at Arizona's Palo Verde nuclear plant, the largest power plant in the US, which I'm proud to have helped save from fossil fuel billionaire & Democratic presidential candidate @TomSteyer, who could profit from killing nuclear

environmentalprogress.org/big-news/2018/…
@Aps @TomSteyer "Reviews of Steyer’s financial disclosures showed investments in fossil fuels in Australia, including coal... oil and gas."

thehill.com/policy/energy-…
Notably, when the paid operatives of @TomSteyer tried to kill Arizona's Palo Verde nuclear plant, they made the same false attack on nuclear as having dangerous waste.

Waste fear-mongering isn’t innocent. It’s been used to kill nuclear plants for 50 years.
"Sanders learned the hard way that renewables can’t replace nuclear. Where Vermont promised to reduce emissions by 16% between 1990 and 2015, emissions instead rose 25%. Part of the reason was the closure of a nuclear plant, something Sanders advocated."

"In the '50s many experts believed growth would drive the transition from fossil fuels to nuclear, just as it had driven the transition from renewables to fossil fuels, Malthusian-socialists sought to do the opposite."

thank god we banned plastic straws from going to landfills
Flying across the U.S. exposes you to ~500x more radiation/hour than when you are near nuclear waste

"This is going to get really boring really fast,” said the engineer who showed journalists the waste

And yet journalists still think it's a story...
