I just did a search for the words CDC and Deep State and while about 1/3rd of the most recent results were people being sarcastic, there's a lot of stuff like this. Body of a tweet reading: CDC is by definition “deep state”. White House advisor is by definition the will of the people
Led by the examples of Donald Trump and specific propaganda spread by Rush Limbaugh, a significant portion of the US population is prepared to ignore all scientific and medical advice on COVID-19, and will undoubtedly regard any failure of their fantasy bubble as germ warfare.
Here is Trump criminal accomplice and propaganda master Sean Hannity making a neutral reporting of facts. Check out the mix of conspiracy theories about China and the Deep State in the replies.

That Hannity threw that up without comment suggests to me he's trying to find footing for a necessary pivot, or feeling out if his audience will let him. Right now it seems like they would eat him alive if he told them the truth, so he probably won't.

Thinking about this thread of mine today, in light of stuff like this.

This is the kind of thing I was talking about when I said that our way of doing things is unsustainable. Screenshot of Tweet body reading: 'All these people saying “I hAvE tO wOrk iM nOt StAyiNg hOmE iF iM sIcK.” Is exactly how things get spread. Could be deadly to others but glad you’ll be making your $70 that day, Richard. Selfish.'
You start with something that's perfectly reasonable sounding, like: people go into business to make money, THEREFORE you have to expect that if a business can make more money somehow, it will, THEREFORE it is right and good when a business does anything in order to make money.
And if you pretend that everything exists in a vacuum with only that logic, then it makes sense for businesses not to pay for quality insurance (and for health insurance businesses to charge a lot and give poor service), not to offer sick time, not to hire more redundant people.

Please listen to what natives are saying about Elizabeth Warren's letter. "What more do they want, she said she was sorry!" is ignoring the fact that the people she offered the apology to have laid out what they want and she offered the apology instead of listening.
She is my chosen candidate from among those running and she remains my chosen candidate from among those running, not because I think she can do no wrong or because I think her good points somehow "overcome" or "override" or "cancel out" things like this...
...but because we need a candidate, none of them are perfect, and I think things will be better overall under her than anyone else.

But "we can't expect perfection" doesn't mean "we can't demand better".

Thing about Trumpism that kills my soul -- and we were warned about it, by @SarahKendzior and others, but it's different to be told it versus seeing it happen -- is how quickly normal changes.
We are already seeing people insist that his loyalty purge of the civil service is normal, that the weird thing is he waited so long to do it, as though we're still on the Spoils System where every president packs the government with cronies on day one.
And they justify it with things that seem sound on the surface like "A president needs people who will work with him and not against him." and "The honorable thing to do if they can't embrace his vision is to resign." and they call them "Obama holdovers" even if they're from Bush
