We must also reach out to local city council, board of supervisors, and state or federal legislators to tell them we need meaningful restrictions on law enforcement use of face recognition, so that Clearview's technology doesn't end up in government hands.

Democrats in Iowa will debut a new smartphone app to help calculate and transmit the results of the upcoming Iowa Caucuses over the internet. There are huge security questions involved here, and we have very few answers npr.org/2020/01/14/795…
In an interview, the Iowa Democratic Party chairman would not disclose who designed the app, what vulnerability tests have been done on it, or the details of contingency plans in case of failure.
This is an app that will theoretically be downloaded onto the smartphones of almost 2000 party leaders and members. Devices that have emails, passwords... We don't have any details on how the incredibly sensitive and personal information on those phones will be kept safe.

It's the most wonderful time of the year! A NUMBER of new employment laws go into effect on Jan 1, 2020 (especially in California). Here are some (non-exhaustive) highlights:
The California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) adds a new definition to the term “race" to include traits historically associated with race, including hair texture and protective hairstyles. The term “protective hairstyles” includes hairstyles such as braids and locks.
Also in California (and this is a BIG one): The statute of limitations for filing a claim of discrimination, harassment, or retaliation increases from 1 year to 3 years.
