Friends, I have #COVID as does my entire family. I've put together this list of helpful strategies that have helped me through the other side, though the rest of my family is still symptomatic. A 🧵!

👇
The most important thing you can do is panic about whether or not your unvaccinated child under 5 will have lasting chronic issues from this virus. I've done a lot of this lately! It's *really* important, because apparently no one has done this, you fucking assholes @cdc

/1
Secondly, make sure you're #vaxxed and #boosted. Wait, you have a child under five? Then just circle back to point 1 and wear down your own immune system by panic-googling symptoms for your kid's specific health problems BEFORE getting a disease known to cause brain damage!

Today is #Halfearthday2021, a plan to protect 50% of the earth, to stop #biodiversity loss & prevent #climate change. Wow, a plan to #restore the planet: that's hopeful!? Unfortunately, not. There is good science showing this is the wrong direction... 🧵 (1/5) #COP26 #COP15
2/5. Every funder should know that if a Half Earth proposal lands on their desk, there will be social risks. Despite the cosy rhetoric, Fortress Conservation leads to #humanrights abuses. Protecting 50% of the globe could affect >1 billion ppl, per Schleicher et al., 2019
3/5. Ecologists, none the wiser, might consider this a price worth paying if species are protected from #extinction. It's a mistake made by Kim Stanley Robinson. The great myth is that people are bad for biodiversity, as shown by Ellis et al., 2021 👇

More info on the @CancerPrev_KCL & @CR_UK-run NHS-Galleri™ #screening trial:

kcl.ac.uk/news/kings-lea…

cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/c…

Worth noting you can't #volunteer for this trial, but if you are 50-77 & haven't been diagnosed with cancer in the past 3 years, you may be #invited... Image
The NHS-Galleri™ #screening trial is a proper #RCT, which means half of the 140,000 participants WON'T be tested (certainly not in the initial phase) and NONE will be told whether they have been #tested or not.

Of course if the test indicates *possible* markers for #cancer... Image
...then you will be contacted by the trial nurse by phone, and will be referred to an NHS hospital for further tests.

So every participant in the NHS-Galleri™ #screening trial should still attend standard screening & should contact their GP if they notice any unusual symptoms: Image

1/ Q: Can I go back to my indoor #fitness classes? 🚴‍♀️

A: The #NerdyGirls LOVE your efforts to stay fit 💪, but best to hang on to those online or outdoor workouts a bit longer.

TL;DR: Heavy breathing, no masks, and indoors is the perfect recipe for #SARSCoV2 #transmission.
2/ A recent U.S. @CDCgov report described an #outbreak linked to an unnamed fitness facility in #Chicago in which *55 out of 81* attendees of an indoor high-intensity fitness class in Chicago were infected over the course of a week in August 2020.
3/ ❓What precautions were being taken?

➡️ The classes were at <25% capacity, with masks 😷, temperature & symptom checks required at entry. 🤒 Exercise mats were spaced 6 feet/2 meters apart. ↔️

1/ After almost three weeks, I am out of #covid19 isolation; some #symptoms persist. It's been a crazy ride that I wasn't prepared for. In order to help others be prepared, I wanted to share my journey from day 1 of symptoms onwards - everyone has a unique journey; here is mine.
2/ First of all, let me say, I have tried to trace back where I got infected, and have no clue. I have generally been quite careful but did take a trip to Muzaffarabad. Since I dont know day of infection, my count starts from day of symptoms
3/ Day 1 (of symptoms) - My stomach feels slightly off; nothing more than slight cramps. I put it down to eating chips and what not on the the drive back from Muzaffarabad, late the night before

Cool paper detailing what body sites, cell types, symptoms #COVID-19 has been connected to thus far 👉 But one thing: everyone knows that most persistent #viral (and #bacterial) pathogens are capable of #infecting/driving an equally extensive # of #symptoms, right?
2/ For example, in this interview, Dharam Ablashi (who co-discovered the #virus HHV6) explains how HHV6 has been shown capable of contributing to #cancers, type 1 #diabetes, Hashimoto’s, #MS, HPA-axis dysregulation, ME/CFS, Alzheimer’s, neuroinflammation..microbeminded.com/2020/06/28/int…
3/ ..and that the HHV6 can survive in

Cool new study which found that a range of #pathogens (some capable of long-term persistence in tissue + #blood) upregulate expression of the cell surface protein CD47 in the host cells they infect as an #immune evasion strategy
2/ I fact, upregulation of CD47 is a very smart survival strategy by such pathogens, b/c it interferes w/ the host innate immune response that is normally supposed to identify, target and kill them!
3/ Specifically the team found that upregulation of CD47 by the pathogens under study slowed uptake of dead/#infected cells by the #immune system, including the downstream activity of #antigen presenting cells that are needed to recognize pathogens in the first place

So, let's take a look at the latest #ContactTracing effort to emerge: pepp-pt.org - not an app, but 'components' to build apps & systems.

(There's so many tracers popping up now, it's getting like the rash of #COVID19 #SymptomSurveys that broke out last week...)

1/n
Nice to hear that @PeppPt "embrace a fully #privacy-preserving approach". So what exactly is it? (The devil, of course, is always in the detail...)

Ah! Here we are, "a brief description of our #privacy enforcing flow":

First, #AnonymousIdentifiers. Good. (And precisely what we recommended: medconfidential.org/wp-content/upl…)

This really is a no-brainer; anyone proposing to use persistent #deviceIDs at this point is plainly a clueless numpty. Or actively seeking to #surveille.

Growth rate is key during a disease outbreak. The rate of growth in the the total confirmed #cases in #Canada seems to be showing signs of slowing and pulling away from the continued steep trend line seen, for example, in the United States (Green). #COVID19 #coronavirus 1/25
This is a +ve sign, but still very early to tell, esp. with an est. 1M+ #Canadians having just returned from travel, and #COVID-19 #testing only targeting >severe cases (due to rationing & backlog in lab testing), we don’t have a good grasp on the level of community spread. 2/25
The number of total cases is what we want to know, but the true number of these is not known. Not by us epidemiologists, nor by any other research, governmental or reporting institution. 3/25
