What these *joke* decals reveal, is the undercurrents of violence that elements of the settler mainstream desire to enact.
Decades ago (1988) I wrote about this in a MA thesis - the undercurrents of violence circulating in settler communities toward Indigenous peoples.
It is disappointing to see how persistent these tendencies to violent discipline presented as *jokes* persist.
In Hugh Body's 1975 book, The People's Land, he called this kind of *joke* colonial folklore.
Along side the decals will be imaginary stories circulating about *real Indians* and *real protesters,* none of them actually based in more than the imaginations of a settler defensiveness.
Michael Taussig, in his 1987 book, the Wildman, talks of the actual violence settler colonists perpetuated on the bodies of Indigenous peoples and how they justified it in terms that sound similar to the current discourse of the *joke* decal makers.
