The social mediaverse is *full* of bad ideas and outright misinformation about Covid-19 and the new coronavirus. So let’s do some mythbusting—with a few tips to help keep yourself and those around you safe 1/ #CoronaOutbreak
First: Wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands 2/ #CoronaOutbreak wired.trib.al/YhrPlU9
Clean all of your tech equipment. Just like your hands, your smartphone and keyboard and headphones and anything else gets germs on it. 3/
Stop. Buying. Masks.

The CDC recommends only people who are sick should wear them and medical professionals need them so they can help other people.

Also: you’re probably wearing it wrong. 4/ wired.trib.al/dfaIBmV
That goes for gloves too. Stop buying them. You’re better off washing your hands, and actual medical workers need them to take care of sick people. 5/
You might see advice to suck on zinc lozenges if you feel sick. The problem: The science there is dodgy. They *might* reduce the number of days you feel sick, but the few good trials suggest they don’t do anything. 6/ wired.trib.al/tXAD0W1 and wired.trib.al/Vd8DYps
So how do you get infected with SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus? Scientists still aren’t sure, but it’s likely to be transmitted in droplets from coughing or sneezes. But the best preventative measures are simple: wash your hands, stop touching your face. 7/ wired.trib.al/9oWYAVx
Can you get the coronavirus twice? Probably not. Reports suggesting it happened to a person in Japan might be due to a bad test or a flare-up of the original disease. 8/ wired.trib.al/0m70ARl
One big question: Should we be more worried about the flu than #COVID19?

Worry about the flu enough to get vaccinated. Many more people die of flu, but that's because more people get it. SARS-CoV-2 is a new virus and its spread is hard to predict. 9/ wired.trib.al/YhrPlU9
One thing to prepare yourself for: This won’t be the last coronavirus outbreak. This is the third coronavirus in the past two decades to jump from animals to humans—a trend that's likely to continue. 10/ #CoronaOutbreak wired.trib.al/YhrPlU9
