Trump is shrinking the GOP to a narrow loyalist base. In theory, that should fail come election time, but the electoral college means he has a path to victory even if he loses the popular vote by even more.
The question is how many disaffected Republicans stay home or even vote Dem, and how many Dems who stayed home in 2016 show up. The choice of Dem candidate will decide both.
Steyer, Klobuchar and Buttigieg did the right thing in this regard, putting their goals and the country before personal ego, putting getting Trump out of the White House over everything.

A stimulus that hands $500 billion to known swindlers like Trump & Mnuchin is a betrayal of American taxpayers. Help people & the businesses who keep them employed directly, not the fat cats who buy back stock and take big bonuses. The economy is people!
What is the stock market going to do with another trillion dollars into the black hole? No economy will be left to "restart" with 30% unemployed. Stimulus must be tied to keeping workers (who are also consumers) paid so there's a real economy to come back to.
I'm a firm believer in the free market, emphasis on free, not one that is hijacked and hostage to the stock market. You need healthy, secure, working people now and next month and next year or it's a Great Depression.

Russians' distrust of the Putin regime isn't "a legacy of the Soviet past" and Chernobyl. Such bullshit. It's from 20 years of Putin's state-controlled media telling us it's not raining while we get soaked.
"Social distancing started relatively early" in Russia? A CNN reporter repeats this garbage? This photo is a chess event in Yekaterinburg from 5 days ago! Football stadiums were packed 7 days ago.

America and the rest of the free world outsourced essential capacity to unreliable or hostile dictatorships. Globalization is a boon, but disconnecting economics from democratic values can lead to disaster.
In Winter Is Coming, I recommended "dictatorship replacement" trade policies to increase leverage over the world's worst regimes, encouraging them to reform & uniting the world's democracies in solidarity and self-sufficiency.
Instead, the easy but slippery path of engagement was chosen, supporting authoritarian regimes like Saudi Arabia, Russia, and China. It has failed, as it always does. They haven't liberalized at all and influence has spread the other way.

Actual history of the Electoral College at the Phil Convention was complicated; there were multiple proposals & delegations like Virginia were split. Delegates from Massachusetts & Connecticut vocally opposed a national popular vote; Randolph (VA) wanted POTUS picked by Congress.
This sort of reductive narrative that the Electoral College was 100% about slavery and the North's unified desire for a popular vote was defeated by equally unified Southern slavers is a serious distortion of that history.
