Courtesy of @LeeKoren2 , wise words from Israeli author David Grossman in the wake yesterday's election.
The words and wisdom are all his, the flaws in translation solely my own. Apologies.
"There are moments and situations in the life of a nation, as in the life of a person, when you find yourself standing in awe.
And you don't understand how this happened, and who could have thought, and how is it and you try to enlist explanations from various fields, economic, social, anthropological, philosophical and psychological explanations, and you once again don't believe how is this possible
And you confront things as force majeure, let’s say a flood or a tsunami, and you know that all of this apparently has an explanation, but that it’s not important now, and now we need to deal with the fracture.
And all the while, you again understand that you may have tried, but that you don't really have control of the course of events, or the ability to influence any one of them. That you can decide only about yourself, and the manner in which you react, think, feel and speak.
So in the wake of these elections, that appear to be like the beginning or the continuation of a disaster, I promise to check myself daily, to see if the seed to see that nothing of this evil mood will stick to me.
None of the racism, none of the exploitation, none of the evil, none of the brutality, none, of the stupidity and none of the tunnel vision.
And that I'll continue, even perhaps as would a child, to believe that there can be justice here, and equality, and quiet, and peace between person and person, between peoples and peoples.
And that even if our elected officials don't believe in it, and that our government doesn't do it, I'll try to achieve it, in the small space that surrounds me."
End.
Deep thanks to David Grossman for his words.
