THREAD
Hamas and others praise the murder of 19 yr old Dvir Sorek. Others - maybe you? - look on silently thinking, he got what he deserved or that's what happens to Israeli 'settlers.' But take a deeper look at who he was. You will be surprised.
When Dvir was murdered he was unarmed, in civilian clothes, just a student at a local Jewish religious school. He was found dead clutching books of the famous Israeli author, David Grossman, a left wing, secular, peace activist, a long time supporter of the two state solution.
Dvir had purchased these books as a gift for his Rabbis. Dvir's gift choice may seem surprising for someone with his profile (religious, 'settler'). However, Dvir wanted to share his love of ideas and secular literature with people who he felt had enriched his religious learning.
Dvir also attended meetings with friendsofroots.net/organization, bringing together Israelis and Palestinians living in the West Bank in efforts to learn about one another and foster coexistence.

Dvir was not the problem. Dvir was part of the solution. And they killed him.
Tragically, Dvir’s grandfather was also killed in a terror attack exactly 19 years ago. Rabbi Benjamin Harling z'l was killed by terrorists who shot a group of tourists near Mount Ebal in 2000.
And so we say in the ancient Jewish tradition: May the soul of Dvir Sorek, of blessed memory, be elevated and may his family and friends be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
