More on #COVID19 in #China - Two medical worker from Guangdong, who have been treating patients at the frontline in #Wuhan, published a letter in the @TheLancet today, calling for help from the international community in the fight against #coronavirus. Here are the excerpts -
“The conditions and environment here in Wuhan are more difficult and extreme than we could ever have imagined. There is a severe shortage of protective equipment, such as N95 respirators, face shields, goggles, gowns, and gloves.”
“The goggles are made of plastic that must be repeatedly cleaned and sterilised in the ward, making them difficult to see through. Due to the need for frequent hand washing, several of our colleagues' hands are covered in painful rashes.”

More on #COVID19 - Three members of #China's central taskforce for the #coronavirus epidemic showed up at a press conference to share their clinical findings. Here are some main takeaways -
1. Deputy Chief of Beijing's Chaoyang Hospital, Tong Chao-Huei, said serious symptoms usually happen to patients in their 50s and 60s and many of them already have pre-existing medical conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes.
Tong said many of these patients suffered from getting enough oxygen, which accelerates the deterioration of their symptoms. Additionally, #coronavirus not only attacks patients' lungs, like SARS, but it also attacks patients' hearts and kidneys.

HHS/CDC/FDA has completely fallen down on the job, bottlenecking testing during a critical period.

CDC reports a total of 426 people in the US were tested as of 2/24, a rate of ~12 per day.

But South Korea was at 3000/day. We can do >100X better.

This is not due to some technological limitation. The test is standard. It is a form of artificial scarcity, created by HHS/CDC/FDA bureaucracy.

Scott is very diplomatic below, but the TLDR is that FDA is denying local labs the authority to test.
