China is more of an engineering led culture with a strong focus on the benefit of everyone (confucian). US is more of a dog eat dog, anything goes, Jesus loves the wolf, righteous belief style culture. I wouldn't trust the US to galvanise the world to fix the climate crisis.
The US has too much inertia, too much invested in fossil fuels ... it's just not going to happen.

... look, even President Xi Jinping studied as a chemical engineer. The level of engineering / scientific experience in China's leadership far outstrips the equivalent in the US where it's more law / economics / humanities etc.
