Developing a safe, affordable and effective vaccination to a fast spreading virus like COVID-19 is a painstaking and highly complex process. For a vaccine to work, scientists first need to understand how the virus functions. A process that is ongoing in labs around the world.
This involves figuring out how genetically diverse the virus is, how quickly it mutates, how contagious it is, what it looks like, what impact it has on individuals and populations.
Next steps involve understanding whether the human immune system can fight the virus and how. And finally, finding an antibody which can fight the virus. There are millions of antibodies, but scientists are able to narrow down the possibilities and then test which ones work.
Testing needs to be conducted in high security labs with precision instruments ensuring people working in the labs don't become infected & no gases or droplets escape. With #IRGC’s history of blunders and disregard for safety, Iran and the rest of the world should be concerned.
