Italy has around 5000 ICU beds, and I assume around 65% of them were already occupied with non-coronavirus patients. That leaves less than 2000 ICU beds in the country. I’m also guessing they cannot transport infected patients to empty ICU beds in non-infected areas.

Here, a doctor is begging people to stay home because they don’t have enough resources to take care of those who will become critically ill. The only way to deal with it is to stay home and slow the spread. They don’t have enough ventilators. video.repubblica.it/dossier/corona…
