In the midst of Covid-19 coverage, I beg your indulgence for a thread both elegiac and celebratory. It presages, as they say on Twitter, "some personal news". (1/15)
I came to Pew exactly 11 years ago. I’ve been privileged to build, and work with, an amazing team. I cannot possibly name the dozens (hundreds?) of current and former staff, but a few shout outs:
Going back to the start, @gabecosel on conflict-of-interest policy and the Sunshine Act, which became law in 2010, and later on drug manufacturing quality (law in 2012), supply chain security (2013) and pharmacy compounding (2013).
Also there from the beginning: @Ian_Reynolds_ -smart, funny, and low-key in equal measures--worked on COI, medical devices, new issue exploration, drug spending (with the brilliant @sean_r_dickson, @alisa_chester_ @chuckshih @amyabadir, among others) and now substance use.
We’ve had a fantastic @saveantibiotics team over the years, w/ policy wins (GAIN, 2012; LPAD, 2016, animal abx policies and super work with @CDCgov on stewardship. @kathryntalking leads w/ David Hyun, Karin Hoelzer, Wes Kim, Kasia O'Neill Murray, Stacey Crawford, @mel_rosenblatt
The health impact project -- @stacey4equity @ruthalindberg @bethany_HIA and their colleagues -- works steadfastly to address the structural issues that influence health #equity4ever
Led by @bethconnolly20, our substance use team does great work on the ground in states (example: ldh.la.gov/assets/docs/Be…). Can’t list the whole team, but they include @alainamcbournie and @lipperson. @city_libbin leads efforts to #XtheXwaiver
I’d say @benmoscovitch has forgotten more about health IT policy than most people will ever know, except he hasn’t forgotten anything. Also @ashleyEashworth Oh, yeah: #AdoptUDI
@joshrising -trusted friend and co-conspirator (obrigado, amigo)-joined early on and built many projects, including med devices, substance use and HIT. Plus, he now oversees Pew's dental therapy work with @johngrantdental and @allicorr
@safefoodsandy ably captains Pew's food safety work, from FSMA (2010) to today’s focus on meat and poultry safety and food traceability.
Our @US_FDA work over the years has been driven by many of the above, plus @elizabethjungma who was sorely missed when she went to @US_FDA. @RichardsonLiz has stepped up to lead this work, along with @Elise_Ackley in GR, especially on LDTs, regen and supplements.
Some of the projects no longer active, but no less loved. @JDonzeBlack @StephScarmo on school nutrition; Lee Goldberg, @judithperes on improving care at the end of life.
Across all this, I thank the comms folks, among them @hcable, @ErinDavis117 @nicolesilv2 @lboeder @zd_bernstein, Sara Miller, Matt Mulkey, for their Sisyphean labors. And Jessica Roark, who worked on many new issues, most recently suicide prevention and cannabis regulation.
Incredibly smart and capable, the @pewhealth GR team includes @city_libbin & @Elise_Ackley mentioned above, plus Kyle Kinner across several projects & #approps. Credit to the indefatigable @sarahdespres, my friend and consigliere, for leading them and much else besides.
Heading up this @pewhealth outfit has been the privilege of a lifetime, but I am excited to be starting something new. Effective tomorrow, I will join @CivicaRx has head of public policy. /end
