Dear Good people of Twitter,
I am a resident of Pratapgarh, Raniganj Tehsil of Uttar Pradesh.

I met with a road accident 3 years ago and broke my spine.
I had my first surgery at Allahabad Swaruprani Kamla Medical College

and the doctors there took 2.5 years, just to realize that my treatment is beyond their level of expertise.

Then I visited King George Lucknow medical college where the doctors said that a long time has passed and I can recover only through Stem Cell therapy.

Finally, I came to Vasant Kunj Spine Centre Hospital in Delhi where the initial check up itself costed me more than 40 thousands.

And the estimated cost of the whole treatment is around 7 lakh which is very high for my farmer family.

Perhaps we take it for granted. Perhaps we assume that this is the way that things ought to be. But only a few years ago, had a president died in office, I think Tunisians and others would have been worried about what came next. What instability would arise; what infighting.
None of this should be taken for granted. Tunisia continues to participate in an experiment (long may it continue, deepen & improve) & should never take it for granted. Indeed, it isn't enough to be simply non-authoritarian in this region: one must be actively anti-authoritarian.

First of all, the good news: I got tenure!

I want to celebrate my job security with a #thread about the history of racism & anti-semitism at the U. of Minnesota. I felt it wasn't wise to share my thoughts until my tenure was approved by the Board of Regents. Let me explain. /1
2/ Like many Universities, the U. of Minnesota is starting to reckon with its own discriminatory history. This history was displayed in a brilliant exhibit two years ago, called “A Campus Divided.”

3/ After the exhibit, UMN President Kaler called a Task Force to investigate the University’s discriminatory history, and he asked several faculty, including many of my colleagues in the History department, to be part of this committee.

Okay first things: You may already be covered medically and saving money. How do you find this out? Look at your CTC in your appointment letter or your payslip

Do you have something called PF on it? That's a saving!

Did HR issue you an insurance card? That's your Mediclaim.
Things to ask: How much PF is being deposited into my account each month?

What's my sum insured? Is it just me who is covered or my dependents too?

e.g. You have 3 lacs for self plus dependents (parents/spouse/child). This means upto 3 lacs to be used by any of you per year
