I’ve been thinking about the fallout of this #Coronavirus that isn’t about sickness at all.

A thread.
With schools closing, there are many kids who rely on school for meals and parents who can’t afford childcare who may lose their jobs. Too many kids will be stuck at home with abusive adults. Kids who rely on school for a respite from their home lives.
With colleges closing, many young adults are being forced to move back in with abusive parents, family members, etc. Many of these young adults are moving back to small towns where they escaped bullying, racism, or assault by going to college out of state.
With so many conferences and events canceling, many people are losing their income - writers, speakers, etc rely on these events to pay their bills.
With all of the mass panic buying of cold and flu meds, TP, masks, cleaning supplies, etc - many people aren’t being able to get what their family needs on a basic level.

A lot of businesses will lose business which will cause employees to lose their jobs.
This is what I’m more worried about than the virus itself. I have an autoimmune disease/respiratory disease and I’m not being naive that it’s *impossible* I will catch this virus.

But, I would love for us to think about people other than ourselves and how we can help others.
Not everyone can afford to mass buy non perishable food, flu supplies, etc.

Not everyone can afford to have their child home from school because they could lose their job.

Not everyone has a safe home to go back to as schools and colleges continue closing.
Not everyone is going home to a place where they will be fed.

Not everyone has a savings account to hold them over while they’re out of work.

Not everyone can just live as though this isn’t happening because many of us are more likely to die if we do get it.
Kindness goes a long way. Instead of panic, see how you can help those being affected by the fallout of this virus - not just those physically affected.
Ask your church about families in need of groceries or help with childcare. Ask your friends what they need. Post on your social media what you can offer and see who responds. Make yourself available to others. ♥️
