“No excuses should be made” for lack of testing, Biden says. And no information or steps should be withheld for fear of market reactions, who are more influenced by “strong, steady leadership,” he adds
Vaccines will take time but therapeutics should be available soon, Biden says. Adds a plug to the Cures Act, legislation he championed which passed after Trump was elected but before he was sworn in
“For some reason I still don’t understand,” Trump closed the office that the Obama administration relied on to respond to Ebola crisis, Biden said
Indiscriminate tax subsidies won’t help those who are really going to suffer from economic dislocation, Biden says. He specifically calls for steps to help those in the gig economy. “It’s a national disgrace” Americans don’t have paid sick leave, he says
It’s hard to see benefit of global health programs in normal times, Biden says. But it’s doing precisely that which has now hurt America’s ability to rally the world to deal with coronavirus
“I’ll always tell you the truth,” Biden says as he concludes. “We’ll meet this challenge together.”
