American businesses and the Republican Party made a gamble that profiting excessively at the expense of the people and their health would pay off.

What we're watching is that bet fail in the most deadly of ways.

The entirety of the American economy was designed around the concept of benefiting the wealthy and powerful while ensuring workers get paid little and are denied the most basic and humane healthcare.

It is a perfect recipe for a societal-threatening pandemic.
Watching the economy crater now, it's obvious what a terrible and cruel bet this whole thing was. Obscene, accelerated profit was given more important than human lives. It was always doomed to failed. Always.
Make no mistake about it. This economy was designed to be cruel and designed to put people at risk. Starting with Reagan in the 1980's, the point was always this vast divide in the name of obscene hypercapitalism.

Now, this pandemic makes that cruelty startlingly obvious.
