1/ THREAD - Hi from #Ohio. There are a lot of rumors flying around about our election right now. Try not to spread them.

ℹ️ Here's what we KNOW:

🔸Governor Mike DeWine wants to move Ohio's Primary Election date from March 17 (tomorrow) to June 2nd due to #Coronavirus.
2/🔸Gov DeWine doesn't have the power to move elections. Which is why he only RECOMMENDED we move the election.

🔸SO a group of high-risk #Ohio voters filed a lawsuit with the Franklin County Common Pleas Court to try and move the election.
3/❗️There are people opposing Gov DeWine's proposed June 2nd election date, saying #Ohio should have an earlier in-person voting day.

❗️There are also people opposing the June 2nd date, saying Ohio should only do vote-by-mail. No in-person Election Day.
4/🚨🚨 The Franklin County judge REJECTED DeWine's request to move tomorrow's election (technically rejected the lawsuit filed by the high-risk Ohioans).

🚨🚨 BUT it's likely not over.
❗️There could be appeals. The #Ohio Supreme Court may need to get involved.
5/ Then CNN incorrectly reported that #Ohio's election has been moved.

That is not currently true.

Seriously. @CNN. Take down the article.
6/6 We STILL do not know how this will turn out. There will likely be appeals.

Right now, #Ohio's election is still set for tomorrow.
But hundreds of poll workers don't think they have to show up.
&Who knows how many voters likely think it's canceled.

We just have to....wait.
UPDATE: @CNN corrected their article 👍

But now we have poll workers receiving emails telling them #Ohio's election has been postponed due to #coronavirus.

Currently, the election is still tomorrow.
Make sure to follow #Ohio's awesome political and legislative reporters too. We need them: twitter.com/i/lists/110910…
UPDATE: I'm not sure what this means. And I refuse to guess.

Legally, as of 9:33 pm EST the night before the election, #Ohio's primary election is still on.

Update: Gov says @OHdeptofhealth Director will issue an order closing polling locations for tomorrow.

It appears the #OhioPrimary (originally scheduled for tomorrow) has been POSTPONED.

@OHdeptofhealth Director signed an order closing the physical polling locations, which I think she can do (note: not a lawyer).

But. This is happening. So you never know.
So. It's definitely looking like no #OhioPrimary tomorrow.

Argument appears to be that Dr. Acton can close the physical polling location buildings. Which, in effect, postpones (cancels??) voting.

It's also looking like it'll be raining lawyers tomorrow.
UPDATE 12:20 am (Election Day?):

It still APPEARS the #OhioPrimary (originally scheduled for today 3/17) has been POSTPONED....

But a lawsuit has been filed & the #Ohio Supreme Court just ordered the state to respond by 1:30 am tonight. (5 hours before polls would need to open)
UPDATE 12:48 am (Election Day?):

The state responded quickly. Not sure what happens next. A 3:00 am ruling?
(Regular reminder that I'm not a lawyer)

#OhioPrimary #ohio #coronavirus #COVID19
**Apologies. Wrong link in previous tweet. This is the state's response: supremecourt.ohio.gov/pdf_viewer/pdf…
UPDATE: Supreme Court decision on this lawsuit supremecourt.ohio.gov/Clerk/ecms/#/c…

🚨🚨🚨🚨This APPEARS to mean that #Ohio's primary election, originally scheduled for today (Tuesday, 3/17), has been POSTPONED.
(But I'd check back in the morning to be sure) #OhioPrimary
