THREAD: 1/n. I have a self-quarantined central #Ohio client who was on the #CarnivalValor cruise with this man. I believe that our #Columbus community needs to know of her experience with #Carnival and @OHdeptofhealth.

I will be updating this thread as I find out more.
2/ My client is female, between 45-50 years old. Before I continue, people should know that she has been in public places in central #Ohio for days. She found out from a friend this morning who had seen this morning's @ColumbusHealth #COVID19 announcement. Places she's been:
3/ Sunday March 9th: @Costco at #Polaris; #Costco in #PlainCity; #Aldi in #Delaware.

Wed. March 12th, after work: @TommysPizzaOhio but not yet sure which location.
4/ On Feb 29th, when she embarked, there had been only one confirmed #COVID19 #coronavirus case in the #US - in #Seattle.

She reports that the internet connection aboard the #Carnival #Valor was spotty. She was able to learn more in #Mexico. Biggest concern was #quarantine.
5/ The #CarnivalValor returned to #NewOrleans on March 5th. She did sightseeing in New Orleans on March 6th and 7th, and returned to central #Ohio on March 8th.

According to this @nbc4i report, #ValorPatientZero began having symptoms on Mar. 7th. nbc4i.com/news/local-new…
6/ Also acc. to the report, the man was tested for #COVID19 #coronavirus on Mar. 12th. At no time did @ColumbusHealth, @OHdeptofhealth, or @CarnivalCruise notify my client that there was a suspected case of #COVID_19 from her #Carnival #Valor #cruise. So she wasn't #quarantined.
7/ But because she wasn't notified that she may have been exposed, she didn't have the knowledge to #selfquarantine either.

Acc. to @wkrg's report, #ValorPatientZero tested positive for #COVID19 #coronavirus yesterday, March 13th, at 8pm. At that time,

8/ my client received no communication from #CarnivalCruiseLine, #ColumbusHealth, or #OHDeptofHealth. In fact, no one told her that she had been on a #cruiseship with a person infected with #COVID_19 #coronavirus until her friend told her it was on the news. My client immediately
9/ did as instructed and called the @OHdeptofhealth hotline and reported that she had been on the #CarnivalValor with #ValorPatientZero. She reports that they asked if she had symptoms, and when she said no, they said they had no concerns, but "You can self-quarantine if it makes
CORRECTION: Sunday, March 8th she was at @Costco at #Polaris; #Costco in #PlainCity; #Aldi in #Delaware.

She told them she had notified her employer. They told her to monitor her temperature. That was it.
11/ There is recent research suggesting that 1 out of every 100 people who contract #COVID19 will be asymptomatic for longer than #14days. There were approximately 2100 people on the #CarnivalValor...including her cabin-mate, who also lives in

12/ central #Ohio. I should mention that prior to finally reaching the #OHDeptofHealth this morning, my client had tried calling @ColumbusHealth, @FC_PublicHealth, and @DelawareHealth. The state hotline was the only one she could reach.

On the other hand, her friend was able
13/ to get through to @ColumbusHealth. Reportedly, her friend told them that she had no symptoms, and asked if she should #selfquarantine and report it to her (large) employer, and #ColumbusHealth told her that she didn't have to #quarantine or tell her employer, and to just
14/ monitor her temperature. Did I mention that my client's friend & cabinmate, who was also on the same #cruise as the #Columbus man with #COVID19, works for one of #CentralOhio's 10 largest employers? She was at work for 3 days last week because reportedly, @ColumbusHealth,
15/ @OHdeptofhealth, and @CarnivalCruise
failed to notify her that there was a suspected case of #COVID_19 from her #Carnival #Valor #cruise, so she, too, did not know to #selfquarantine until my client informed her this morning.

As a result, since leaving the #CarnivalValor,
16/ my client's @CarnivalCruise cabinmate has, in addition to her workplace, been to a central #ohio funeral, a nursing home, and a church. I will update this list and give specifics if I receive them (w/consent).

This is all a lot, but there's more. My client reports that a
17/ significant # of people who were on the #CarnivalValor #cruise with her & the infected man, from Feb. 29th-Mar. 5th, returned to their various home cities and now report via social media that they are ill w/respiratory illness, and can't get tested for #COVID19.
18/ Reportedly, @CarnivalCruise may not have tested anyone on the #ship. After the end of the #cruise on Mar. 5th, the #CarnivalValor left for another cruise from Mar. 5th-11th, and another one from Mar. 11th-today. And I just received this tweet:
20/ One of the #CarnivalValor passengers who returned home to #Missouri is dealing with a similar uneven government response right now. And although it doesn't sound like her symptoms are consistent with #COVID19, it shows that we must #stayhome, ourselves, now.
