Governor Cuomo is briefing us. In his update he said he spoke to Trump again this morning, saying he is fully engaged in helping New York. He is sending the USS Comfort, a floating hospital to NYC immediately. It is has 1,000 rooms, including operating rooms. #coronavirus
Cuomo says we have to convert hospital facilities now so that current patients who need a lower level of care can be transferred opening beds for #coronavirus patients. He has mandated statewide school closures. He asks all businesses to work from home.
Cuomo roughly translates an Italian phrase “A person is a person who has their health. Everything else can be figured out later.” He says right now we have a public health crisis. Later we deal with the economic crisis. NY has the most cases in America. We are a dense place.
Cuomo: no busines can have more than 50% of workplace on site. Essential services excluded. He says it is very easy to get caught in emotions. He says 108 New Yorkers have recovered. Globally, 80,000 people have also recovered.
Cuomo says even his sister called him yesterday saying her daughter needs a test because she isn’t feeling well. He talked her through it, saying she probably has the flu. But he warned his sister to keep her daughter away from their mother who is a vulnerable senior citizen.
Cuomo says panic and fear is disconnected from reality. Too many rumors are causing people to not see what is really happening. Worse than the virus, he says, is the fear. He also says the main challenge is to get ventilators.
