My governor, Andrew Cuomo is holding a news conference now. He is suggesting we have to ramp up our hospital capacity by looking into building new hospitals, even though it takes yrs. China built 2 such #coronavirus hospitals in 2 weeks. They showed us how it can be done.
65 New Yorkers in ICU right now Gov. Cuomo says. He cautions is not to fall prey to fear. He says we will experience a wave that will overwhelm the health system. He wants automated testing companies to be able to test and he is asking the FDA to get out if the way.
He says there has to be an end to the state by state piecemeal approach to combatting #coronavirus. It can not be ad hoc, one place at a time. He wants a federal policy overall- he suggests SNAP be extended so one state is not pitted against another.
Cuomo is calling on the Army Corps of Engineers to start building health facilities. He says there is no other option. He doesn’t want to be sitting here in 10 weeks saying “why didn’t we do more?” He wants the president* to take him up on his idea. Will he??
