We need to have a serious conversation about the consequences of having a President who lies all the time. People have, and will continue to die because of this. Everyone - politicians, the media, people with a ‘share’ button on Facebook have to step up, and fast.
My district office staff are fielding calls from small business owners who think something Trump said in a press conference is a law instead of a wish. Their hopes and livelihoods are being seesawed to salve this man-child’s ego.
He’s telling people that drugs that have nothing to do with COVID-19 might cure them. This is clinical malpractice.
I’m not making a political point. I’m making a science point. The number of people infected by this virus doubles every 3rd day. 2-3% of the people who get infected are dying. THIS IS A MASSIVELY DANGEROUS TIME TO BE LYING.
We need a scientifically-informed, all of government effort. Trump is more committed to racist dog whistles than science and the @GOP is so devoid of courage and leadership that they would rather bow before him than put the health of the American people first.
That leaves the Democratic majority in the House as the last line of defense. NOT because our party has a monopoly on truth, but because the @GOP has abandoned truth as a basis of governance.
Please, please, please. I IMPLORE you. If you have a public platform. Stand up for truth. Stop with the bothsidesism. Stop giving airtime to nonsense. Act like the next time you speak, your words might impact the number of names in tomorrow’s obituaries. Because they do.
