Drive around local shopping districts. None of the bills in DC are coming close to absorb a fraction of the economic calamity that officials are creating now. Telling people to wash hands, wear gloves/masks and avoid unneeded crowds is the only plausible balance here.
.@KimStrassel I don’t want to hear “if we can save one life then this is all worth it.” Sorry. An economic meltdown will cause suicides and mental destruction to loads of people. We don’t stop the sale of liquor due to DWI. We enforce what we can and done. South Korea didn’t
make anywhere close to the lockdowns that we are seeing now in the US. Do @SpeakerPelosi @senatemajldr think that a few $1K checks will come close to absorb a portion of the economic mess being created now? If they think so they are ignorant. I can’t wait for the first time
unemployment numbers of last week to cross the wire this Thursday March 26th 8:30 AM. We are zombie walking into a disaster until then and possibly after that too. @WSJopinion (cc @jamestaranto) sounded the alarm a few days ago but no one is listening! Here in NY, @NYGovCuomo
is softer relative to many other states, but the economic disaster is incoming quick. Many of the “essential” establishments that are permitted to be open in NY are empty, they are already laying off staff & cutting hours. You can’t tell people everyone is dying and then think
that people will do “essential” stuff. @Peggynoonannyc @KimStrassel I have been tweeting for WEEKS that Italy melted with only 1K severe cases so the lesion should be to first up hospital capacity but it took a backseat to school/gym shutdowns. Idiots. We lost 2-3 critical weeks!
.@jamestaranto The other would-be lesson from Italy is that while Coronavirus can infect anyone and harm everyone, it is overwhelmingly dangerous on (deep) seniors. But here again instead of focusing the lockdown efforts on seniors, it was first pushed on everyone. In summary,
if our “leaders” were using brains and not Twitter hashtags; if they looked beyond the headlines from Italy/South Korea, the focus to control Coronavirus would be A) up care capacity. B) slow down the activity of seniors. C) masses should use masks/gloves; reduce social life.
Every passing day anothe state official says that 56% (California); 80% (NY) and 100% (NJ) will get Coronavirus. This illustrates that the the goal of the lockdowns is to slow (not stop) the spread so that the healthcare system can absorb it. Cool so why were not focused FIRST on
upping care capacity? Second, if and since the overwhelming number of deadly cases is in (deep) seniors, why was the second focus not to urge/beg/encourage seniors to be off the streets more? Finally, the rest of society could slowdown instead of lockdown. Employers can be
encouraged to rotate some staff out of home for a few weeks to cut density. The masses can be discouraged from partaking at in-person entertainment activity, and work, shopping and schooling can continue with an elevated level of hygiene, gloves, and (not) masks. Too simple?
THIS AFTERNOON “The Shops at Nanuet” in Rockland, NY. 25 miles North of NYC; a county of 330K people.

Does anyone think that two $1,500 checks will fix the unfolding economic and then human damage being created by these lockdowns?

(The music is from the mall. I did not add it.)
I guess @realDonaldTrump agrees with what I wrote here👆🏼. The problem is that the “cure” (lockdowns) are done mostly by the states. I am not sure what authority Trump has here. Also, when did the 15 days start? NY schools are closed for a week already. Half life too!
Even IF radical lockdowns are the only way, governors should be forthcoming with timelines. Doing so means less companies would fire right/left/center. You can say that non-essential businesses should be closed for 10 days (say through the end of March). Then when they
open, seniors should avoid it and/or designate morning hours for them at least until mid-April. Children should not be schlepped around to all stores until mid-April. Companies should try to rotate staff from home/at office for the first two weeks of April. In those critical few
weeks, the public should wear gloves (masks too maybe) as much as possible, and public surfaces should be cleaned two times daily. Daycares and school through 6th grade should operate normal, while older grades can rotate for a few weeks to keep density lower at school/street.
Folks, if all the crazy steps that we are seeing are so scientific, then @NYGovCuomo @GovMurphy @GavinNewsom should be able to present a day to day outline of 3-4 weeks out instead of these minute-by-minute decrees. Again, they are all saying that the masses will get Coronavirus
big time, but the goal is to suppress the spread (flat the curve) so it does not break hospital. Ok. Who says the above outline is not enough? This still means a 50% reduction in foot traffic for another few weeks and a 100% increase in hygiene efforts. Those few weeks also means
that governors can better prepare hospitals (which they should have done many weeks ago but they were busy with schools). Those few weeks also means the weather gets better which is good to slow the spread of viruses. At any rate, these pop-up decrees need to stop.
UPDATE: Many employers and employees tell me about heavy layoffs in the small business world, primarily because no one has a clue when life will reopen (with measures 👀 👆🏼). With every passing day, the #LockdownGovernors are creating an unmitigated economic-then-human DISASTER.
