To infect a lung cell CV19 must insert its genes hijacking the lung cell’s own genetic factory. That, in turn, begins to set in motion a viral protein factory. Super efficient, creating millions of new virus. 
But they need human proteins to work. The virus has 29 genes, 26 of them acting like the factory foreman directing the production line.
So which human proteins do these little bastards need to function?

So the question is whether there are existing drugs that latch onto the human proteins, blocking the doorway?
And will using them do more harm than good.
That is why proper control trials are needed rather than shareholders, investors and manufacturers claims.

Not only are there possibilities in existing medication (a benefit being that side effects are already known) but some new compounds are currently in clinical trials or in early reasearch.

Some antibiotics also work by attaching to human proteins so could they also work as an anti viral?
Chloroquine (& family) has been touted as another possible but it can have toxic side effects and its efficacy for CV19 is not properly established.
