So @WisConSF3 is cancelled this year. Hotel reservations in the con block automatically cancelled, registrations rolled over to next year in the absence of specific requests. Convention expected to resume in 2021.

I am sad, but it's the right choice.

There will be some kind of online event, details pending, to replace it for this year.

I am grateful to the board for this decision, and relieved that they are already planning for the future. My family's registrations will remain for May 2021, as an investment in the future.
There are so many people I will miss, and events. The whole con itself. But I was more or less resolved intellectually that it would not be safe for me to go this year anyway, whatever my heart might feel.

So-called experts at Imperial College told us to spray thousands of gallons of water directly into a burning building or not only would it be destroyed but the entire block, so we did.

Now it turns out the burning building was only partially damaged, and the rest are fine?
So-called experts at Imperial College told us not to drink and drive, so we stayed sober at the party and then we drove home fine. Not a single accident! If we weren't going to get into an accident, why did we bother staying sober? We need to get to the bottom of this scandal.
Seriously, the wide-spread right-wing vitriol being heaped on the Imperial College report as new projections come out based on more widespread data and following the imposition of social distancing and containment measures is something to see.

With so many scheduled events and long-set plans canceled, I think it's important to have a list of things we want to do after, a personal light at the end of the tunnel.
Making a list like this doesn't require you to imagine a particular normal for the world to settle into, or even be able to imagine life after.

It's even possible making a list will help you imagine a life after lockdown, if you're struggling.
My list includes:

1. Get a tattoo.
2. Try HRT.
3. Go visit friends I haven't seen in ages/would have seen at WisCon.

...I thought people were confused/surprised there were masks in the crypt but from the comments people are shocked that a cathedral has a crypt?

A of all, it's an architectural term.

B of all, this is like being surprised a church has a graveyard attached. They go hand in hand.
Anyway, if I were thinking of places where people might wear breathing masks for workplace safety reasons, "crypt" might not be the first place I'd think of but I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up on a list.

Old basement. Poor ventilation.
Even without mouldering skeletons crammed into wall niches, it's probably not the best breathing environment.

Sammy and his writing partner, Rudy Deluca, founded the world-famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles on April 7, 1972. It would become the premier stand-up comedy club in the world.
