Here my headlines for tonight on the global health emergency we are living with the covid-19 pandemic. Today we broke the ceiling of 400,000 infected people (we got 300,000 on Saturday). At this pace, we'll reach 1 milion infected by next week. Here my thread. 
The most worrying countries continue being right now Italy, Spain and specially the US, where the number of infected is growing out of control. Italy's rate of new infections is pausing. But the number of deaths is still skyrocketing, and will continue so for at least 2 weeks.
Italy may end up easily having 20,000 deaths in the next couple of months. Spain is still unreliable regarding the number of reported infections; since we are basically not testing (as it happens in France). That is why 50% of all the confirmed infected are hospitalized.
But the number of deaths is really high and eloquent: 2,991 now, and it will grow dramatically in the next 2 or 3 weeks. The US is going to pass Italy in number of infections in 2 days, and they will end up being the first country passing the number of infections of China
The US will be quickly the new epicenter of the pandemic. In the rest of Europe, France reports unreliable data, and Germany continues being the best in terms of lethality rate. Regarding the rest of the world #LATAM is now the most worrisome continent.
Brazil, with more than 2,000 cases reported, is the worse place. But Ecuador, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Panama and Argentina are also source of concern. This region needs urgently international help, and China and Japan are the most obvious candidates to ask for that.
Israel, Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia in the Middle East, Malaysia and Indonesia in the far East, and of course India, are new sources of global concern. Everyone is terrified that India might enter into an epidemic situation, given its size and socioeconomic conditions.
We'll see if new measures of confinement (the largest in history, for 1,300 million people) announced today by President Modi are effective. Finally, Africa is still largely underreported or quite in good shape. South-Africa (554), Egypt (402), Algeria (264) and Morocco (170)
are the main focuses. No country is safe now. Not even China, which is beginning to have imported new cases. It will take months to overcome this situation. Again, a World Health Assembly to rethink the WHO is urgently needed. We can't wait until end of May. End of thread.
