Thread. One of the first notable things we saw after collecting / visualising #Covid_19australia cases was this chart showing travellers from USA brought the most #COVID_19 cases into Aus (below). Today I added cruise ships to that chart and this is what happened ... Image
The purple line is cases linked to cruise ships. It dwarfs any other region.
Caveat: many govts have stopped releasing travel details of cases so data re countries isn't complete and exacerbates the difference. But I believe still worth sharing as hints at the scale of the issue. Image
We've just heard a 69-year-old man in Toowoomba QLD has died after contracting COVID-19 on board a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. Feeling acutely aware of the people and families these numbers represent right now and sending deepest condolences to his family😓

Confusion today about NSW #COVID_19 numbers. Here's why🧐. What they announced in the last 48 hours:
- Thurs 19 March: media release. "As at 11am today”. +40 cases, total 307.

- Fri 20 March: press conference w/ Brad Hazzard, Dr Kerry Chant at 1pm. +75 cases, total 382. (citation @SMH live blog).
- Fri 20 March: media release. “As at 8pm today”. +46 cases, total 353 🤔
- Sat 21 March: media release. “As at 8pm today”. +83 cases, total 436.

So for some reason, NSW Health has reported an extra 29 cases today, that the minister had already reported y’day.

This led to covid19data.com.au briefly showing more cases than the official total. This has been corrected to match NSW Health's total figure.

 A change to the charts - most states and territories have not immediately stated transmission sources for individual cases, nor have they specified whether the case is still under investigation. These cases have now been categorised as 'unknown or undisclosed'.

2/ First, I just want to say this is not a commentary on Iraqi politics in general. I am not an Iraq expert, but I am interested in online opinion manipulation or campaigns. What follows is an analysis of tweets only...
3/I analysed about 16,700 tweets, replies, retweets from the hashtag I mentioned in Tweet 1. These tweets were produced by around 6,500 unique accounts. Most of the tweets were quite crude, and looked like what you see below, full of hashtags, some describing a 'revolution'>

[#Thread] 1/ This one is on the Egypt protests, or rather the hashtag #ميدان_التحرير I gathered a sample of around 21,000 interactions from around 9,700 unique accounts. Quite a lot of accounts considering they are unique. Obviously there will be much chatter about influence ops
2/ I did my usual analysis first. I examined the account metadata to determine the distribution of account creation dates. What I found was quite astonishing. 1484 of the 9713 unique accounts were created in September 2019. That's 15%!
3/ As you can see from the graph, the spike on the right shows the 1484 accounts created in September. Bear in mind the average number of accounts created per month in this sample is just 66. That's a huge difference! What's perhaps more interesting is that the accounts started

#Thread My talk last night with @OutlawHistorian has inspired me, so-- here is a #japanesehistory thread about ashigaru, as an introduction for those who haven't heard the term before.

This is a beloved topic of mine, because as you'll see, it's a grey area in Japanese history.
So. "Samurai" is a catch-all term used more in the west than in Japanese. These terms vary, but the short answer is that samurai were low ranking members of the warrior caste, and warriors in general were called bushi. All samurai are bushi, but only some bushi are samurai.
Ashigaru 足軽 is spelled "foot-light." Different clans and regions used terms differently, of course, but generally speaking, ashigaru are a gray area. They were part of feudal armies and part of lordly retinues in the Edo period (1600-1868), but were they bushi?

She began by describing many known NXIVM locations in Clifton Park. Penza says 127 Grenadier Court was Allison Mack's condo where the branding of women took place with their "arms above head like a sacrifice."
2 Flintlock where she says Raniere took sexually explicit photos including those of a 15 year old. 120 Victory Way, where she says DOS witness Nicole was tied to a table, blindfolded, not knowing she was being videotaped.
