I want to post this to nyc teachers FB page anonymously. If I weren't afraid of my vindictive principal, I'd post it myself. But I need my paycheck and pension. So I hide behind the keyboard.
If you get the time, please read. (1)

My heart is literally breaking for my students. I have received no less than 10 emails expressing real concern about the amount of work and time required from online class. I have given what is demanded of me from admin: bell-to-bell full on lessons (2)
including do-now’s, group interchange, writing tasks, graphic organizers and hw. I have Admin as students in all of my GC. As I’m typing this at 3am, I notice that 8 (!) students are submitting work online in order to beat the morning deadline for hw turn-ins. (3)
The notifications bing constantly. I am there for all students, answering questions and checking in, from 8-2:45 or beyond. I have wonderful students. Some of them are bored, disengaged, angry. (4)
I would bet, to a student, that all of them are frightened and looking for some clarity in this crazy time.
How, in good conscience, can we continue to do this to our students? “Miss, I’m overwhelmed,” “Miss, I have 8 subjects with the same amount of work. (5)
I need more time for your deadline,” “Miss, I don’t know what to do with everyone home in my apartment...” The list goes on. I don’t have the freedom to tell them that I am experiencing the same fears. Times 1000. (6)
My own health, the concerns of my family and the unbelievable pressure of posting these insane lessons by 9:59am each day. It’s not the teaching, it’s the intensity of the work during this time. The pace really can’t continue. I want to console and communicate. (7)
Allow them to vent, like me. But the lesson dictates are too much. We’re going to lose more students, and not just to the threat of Coronavirus 19. My heart is literally breaking for my students. And me. And you. (8)
As I mentioned, my principal is a student in all classes. She will comment on rigor. HAS commented on rigor. Demands it. Will call you out in a staff memo. (9)
