DOCTORS ACROSS THE COUNTRY ARE FURIOUS. The things we are learning about the lack of U.S. preparedness are truly alarming. And after weeks of ringing alarm bells, we still don't have the tests, PPE, and support we need on the front lines. Here is what we know right now. (1/16)
We learned that since taking office @realDonaldTrump cut 2/3s of the CDC staff in China. In short, it sidelined professionals who could have helped China as well as provide critical info to the US Gov. (2/16)

Experts are now telling us this is the worst intelligence failure in U.S. history. The Intelligence Community has been warning and asking @realDonaldTrump to prepare since at least January. (3/16)

We got to read the National Security Council's literal Pandemic Playbook. Worse than the fact that @realDonaldTrump's team failed to follow it, they are still not implementing many of the recommendations. The biggest failure, testing! (4/16)

The moment this looked like something that could turn into a pandemic, the report offers a question to ask early and often “Is diagnostic capacity keeping up?” It wasn't. It hasn't. And it's still not. Doctors see tests being rationed every day. (5/16)

As @DrRobDavidson continues to say in interviews, our first case was the same day as South Korea. They were ready & started testing right away. If we were testing at their level scaled for population, we would be testing 130,000 people/day. We are barely halfway
there. (6/16)
We know how this can all end if we fix the testing problem.
Step 1: National lockdown for the next 4 to 6 weeks to slow the spread.
Step 2: Massive expansion in testing to Test, Trace, and Isolate.
Step 3: In the next year or so find a vaccine. (7/16)
There are a whole bunch of problems, but the top of the list is that when we need a hero who steps up to boldly solve problems, we instead have a President who continues to lie and fails to act boldly (8/16)
The human consequences of lack of preparedness, lack of tests, lack of PPE, and lack of bold leadership are starting to add up and quickly. A Michigan nurse was breaking down after her shift as she described what felt like a war zone. (9/16)
In NYC a doctor described his experience in detail, "He treated a woman in her mid-sixties with telltale signs of covid-19: fever, shortness of breath, coughing up blood. She was terrified." (10/16) newyorker.com/news/our-local…
In New Orleans, New York, Detroit, Atlanta, and so many other communities, hospitals are at or nearly at capacity. Running out of beds and ventilators. (11/16)

On personal protective equipment (PPE) the situation is dire everywhere. In Colorado, there are reports of sowing stations at hospitals and in New York nurses are wearing trash bags. (12/16)
Then there are the reports of one of my biggest fears, health care professionals, public safety personnel, and emergency service professionals taken out of the line of duty b/c of COVID-19 infections. (13/16)

Imperfect as it may be, economic relief is on the way, but now the President is talking about opening the country up in the next few weeks. This is deeply dangerous language and that's why ER docs are speaking out. Its reckless because... (14/16)

It will costs thousands if not millions of lives. Check out these charts that clearly set out the value of social distancing for the next 6 to 8 weeks verses opening up life in America right away. (15/16) nytimes.com/interactive/20…
Mr. President mobilize the nation under the Defense Production Act, move to a National Shelter in Place, & get us the DAMN tests we need.
