Compared to typical viral pneumonia admissions to ICU, COVID patients:
Are in previously better shape (90% fully independent)
Have fewer pre-existing co-morbidities
Are *much* more likely to be mechanically ventilated

Seen some unhelpful tweets from medics suggesting these patients are "mostly obese" - not true. Mirrors BMI distribution in normal population
As per previously released figures last week - about half of the patients admitted to ICU with COVID-19 die.

Time to put the misconception that this disease only targets the very old or the sick to rest. It's been a tremendously harmful misrepresentation of the facts causing many to believe it's trivial. It remains true that most get a mild disease & risk is low. But it's not trivial.
