1/ During times of crisis, people tend to flock to the extremes. It's what happened following the Great Depression in Germany, paving the way for Hitler to grow the Nazi party from a battered one to the party majority support and complete national control.
2/ There's a lot to consider during this #coronavirus outbreak, so I hope you read through at least some of what I have written. We run the risk of further polarizing our country politically––something which, from beyond surface-level, theoretically shouldn't happen.
3/ According to a study conducted by @politico, the majority of Americans approve of #Trump's #COVID19 response. That said, many, including me, believe that given his previous actions, mindset, and tools, should have taken definitive action even earlier.
@politico 4/ The other debate has do with #climatechange.
@politico 5/ While we work on stimulations for our economy, for our people, and for the companies that need it the most, how do we ensure that they use their money with integrity and don't take advantage of the fact that they are deemed 'essential' by our government?
@politico 6/ $BA is the prime example of this. @stevenmnuchin1 proposed the government taking equity stakes in these companies after giving them bailout/stimulus cash.
@politico @stevenmnuchin1 7/ And, as the democrats tried (too hard, in my opinion), how do we add some climate-healthy legislature into all of this reform?
@politico @stevenmnuchin1 8/ Many, myself include, argue that right now, our priority lies in restoring economic strength by (i) catalyzing it so it 'survives' as we (ii) fight the #coronavirus until it is no longer existent.
@politico @stevenmnuchin1 9/ I have previously argued () that this economic crisis will never really be over until the virus is contained, because until then, there will still be supply-side and demand-side risks.
@politico @stevenmnuchin1 10/ Finally, in times of crisis, social outlook timeframes are drastically lowered. People are suddenly more focused on what will happen in the next year, as opposed to the next forty.
@politico @stevenmnuchin1 11/ This translates to the issue of climate change––a longer term issue that the youth have taken very heavily to. Right now, we need to stop the virus and save the global economy () and deal with climate change later.
@politico @stevenmnuchin1 12/ That said, it should remind in the back of our and our politicians minds as we reform legislature to save us from this crisis.
@politico @stevenmnuchin1 13/ That was a lot in one thread, but if you made it, I hope I got you thinking just a bit about the broader implications of this crisis. Psychology, climate, extremism, bailout integrity, and politics are crucial topics to consider during this time.
