TWEET1/ I've actually been posting viral tweets arguing that media must stop covering Trump's press conferences for a while now. More than one tweet, though none framed with the supposed direct quote Trump used above. The far right has been irate about it.
TWEET2/ Between these two tweets (the one I just posted and this one) the call to end major-media coverage of Trump's press conferences—because they spread disinformation and endanger people, not because they're popular—has received around 60,000 retweets.
TWEET3/ My campaign to stop media coverage of these pressers has included smaller tweets on the subject—e.g., see below—that received retweets in the low thousands, for a total, campaign-wide result of 100,000+ retweets and tens of millions of impressions.
TWEET4/ Some forget that Sarah Huckabee Sanders adopted a NEW YORK POST "enemies list" that included my name and 31 others. I've said it from Day 1: the White House is aware of PROOF OF COLLUSION and PROOF OF CONSPIRACY and—because they're impeccably sourced—don't want them read.
TWEET5/ I've no doubt many who write books on Trump have noticed a trend: he'll name the authors of NYT bestsellers that are gossip books—that position him as just silly or stupid—but if you author a book that goes after his foreign scandals (e.g. Craig Unger), he won't name you.
TWEET6/ In any case, whether the president has the courage to name those authors whose books about him would *really* hurt or not—which he doesn't, because he's an abject coward, through and through—I will keep militating for his disinformation to be kept off the public airwaves.
TWEET7/ (BTW, oddest of all is those Trump supporters who think their God-Emperor *doesn't* know the name of *every author* who's written multiple NEW YORK TIMES bestsellers deconstructing his corrupt administration. No man has ever been more aware of his most effective critics.)
NOTE/ On a separate note, if you don't follow the warped disinformation pathways the right has constructed, you're missing out. A now-popular far-right meme is to claim US media has been *clamoring* for more Trump for *years*—and now that they've gotten it, they're attacking him.
NOTE2/ What the far-right did—with this meme—was take media criticism that Trump stopped letting his *Press Secretary* do daily briefings, and *pretend* US media was demanding to hear more from *Trump*. So now they say *his* daily briefings are just giving media what *it* wanted.
NOTE3/ This is the level of stupid we're talking about. Media has spent 4 years saying we need *less* Trump and *more* Press Secretary—and far-right memes have *effortlessly* turned that into "more Press Secretary *and* more Trump" in an effort to make US media look hypocritical.
NOTE4/ In doing this, they're just mimicking their God-Emperor. Note what Trump did in his tweet today—the one atop this thread. He says criticism of his pressers is *explicitly* based on them being *too popular*—when of course it's *always* been based on them being full of lies.
NOTE5/ While I appreciate that fact-checkers will now try to find the *direct quote* Trump *claims* he used in his tweet, the reality is, the low-tech propaganda techniques Trump uses on Twitter are just *basic*—in all senses of that word, slang included—reframings and misquotes.
