Cholesterol, statins and COVID-19
I came across an article stating that low cholesterol levels have been observed in COVID-19 patients in Wuhan.

That made me think about the fact that it is usually elderly people who follow doctor's orders and get on statin meds. Well, that's interesting because from what we know about COVID-19 it seems that the elderly population is mostly affected by this respiratory affection and that
made me think as to why could that be the case. The answer is never simple and many factors seem to play a role.
Lipids are essential component of lung cells and play major role in lung development, immune response mediation, tissue repair and assist in regulating inflammation.
Statins are the most widely prescribed lipid-lowering drug in the world. Statin toxicity and drug interaction is generally overlooked on account of the perceived benefits of this potent drug.
Another aspect that remains ignored by conventional medicine is the underlying mechanisms of cholesterol production as a function of essential biological processes and demands of the human body;
in other words why is cholesterol production called upon and for what purpose is it being utilized? Evidence shows that low cholesterol levels may inhibit essential mechanisms necessary in the maintenance of lung health.
The elderly population is the largest consumer of statin medication, which would make them more vulnerable and susceptible to acute respiratory infections.
Add pre-existing chronic conditions, comorbidity and seasonal intake of flu and pneumonia vaccines and you see how the elderly would be the most vulnerable segment of the population.
Oxidative stress,depleted glutathione, low melatonin, low cholesterol via statins- depleting lipids. Lipid molecules have essential role as surfactants of lung cells and deficiencies can cause severe pulmonary distress and impaired gas exchange.Who's most vulnerable?The elderly.
Who's mostly affected by COVID19, pneumonia, the flu, etc.? The elderly. Dyslipidemia in the elderly is serious condition that can lead to cardio-vascular complications and strokes. Certainly something to think about...
