They are indigenous people native to their homeland called Kurdistan and have been there for over 3000 years. They are not Persian, Turkish or Arab. They have their own unique language, culture, traditions, lifestyles etc.

Kurdish is a macro language like Arabic & Chinese divided into 4 groups.
1-Northern Kurdish (aka: Kurmanji etc)
2-Central Kurdish (aka: Sorani etc)
3-Southern Kurdish (aka: Kelhori, leki, Lori etc)
4-Eastern Kurdish (aka, Gorani, Hawrami, Zazaki etc)
Religious diversity has been a feature of Kurdistan for many centuries. Main religions that currently exist in Kurdistan are as follows: Islam, Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Yarsanism, Yazidism, Alevism, and Judaism. But, over 90% of Kurds are Sunni Muslim.
After Othman. British & Franch took control of the middle east. They divided Kurdistan into Turkey, Iran, Iraq & Syria & left out Kurds. Since 1923 till today, Kurdish faced so many genocides & displacement, assimilation in cruel ways to remove Kurdishness.
