"Earlier today, the government of the #DRC๐จ๐ฉ announced the end of the most recent #Ebola outbreak, three months after the first case was reported in North Kivu.
I congratulate the govt, health workers, communities & all WHO staff who were involved in the response."-@DrTedros
โThis has only been possible thanks to a concerted, comprehensive and consistent approach, using vaccines and therapeutics alongside proven public health measures, with empowered and engaged communities.โ-@DrTedros
โ#COVID19 is a very different disease, but the approach is the same.
The absence of any one of these key measures presents a weakness that this virus will exploit, as we are seeing all over the world.โ-@DrTedros
"More cases of #COVID19 have been reported globally in the past two weeks than during the first six months of the pandemic."-@DrTedros
"#India๐ฎ๐ณ and #Brazil๐ง๐ท account for more than half of last weekโs #COVID19 cases, but there are many other countries all over the world that face a very fragile situation"-@DrTedros
"In #India๐ฎ๐ณ, WHO is providing critical equipment and supplies including oxygen concentrators, lab supplies and mobile field hospitals."-@DrTedros #COVID19
โWeโre also providing advice for people on how to provide care at home for families that are unable to find a hospital bed.
For #COVID19 patient with severe or critical disease, WHO recommends treatment with dexamethasone.โ-@DrTedros
"We call on everyone to continue to follow WHO & national advice on keeping safe:
๐maintain physical distance, avoid crowds
๐ทwear a well-fitted mask that covers the nose and mouth properly
๐ช open windows
๐คง cover coughs and sneezes
๐๐ผ clean your hands"
-@DrTedros #COVID19
"What is happening in #India๐ฎ๐ณ and #Brazil๐ง๐ท could happen elsewhere unless we all take these public health precautions that WHO has been calling for since the beginning of the #COVID19 pandemic.
Vaccines are part of the answer, but they are not the only answer."-@DrTedros
"On Friday, WHO gave Emergency Use Listing to Modernaโs #COVID19 vaccine, making it the fifth to receive WHO validation."-@DrTedros
โEmergency Use Listing is one prerequisite for #COVID19 vaccines to be purchased and supplied through COVAX. It also allows countries to expedite their own regulatory approval and to import and administer a vaccine.โ-@DrTedros
"This morning I met with Swedenโs Minister for Development Coordination, Per Olsson Fridh @thinkper, who informed me that #Sweden๐ธ๐ช will donate 1 million doses of AstraZeneca #COVID19 vaccines to #COVAX."-@DrTedros
โTack sรฅ mycket, #Sweden๐ธ๐ช, for this donation, which follows similar donations by #France๐ซ๐ท, #NewZealand๐ณ๐ฟ and #Norway๐ณ๐ด, with positive signs from some other countries.โ-@DrTedros #COVID19
โWe call on other countries to follow the example these countries have set, and donate through #COVAX to help accelerate equitable distribution and access.โ-@DrTedros #COVID19
"#COVAX has now shipped almost 50 million doses of #COVID19 vaccine to 121 countries and economies, but we continue to face severe supply constraints.
Solving this dilemma demands courageous leadership from the worldโs largest economies."-@DrTedros
"Next month, leaders from the #G7 countries will gather for what may be the most significant meeting in its history.
The G7 countries are the worldโs economic and political leaders. They are also home to many of the worldโs vaccine producers."-@DrTedros#COVID19
โWe will only solve the #COVID19 vaccine crisis with the leadership of these countries.โ-@DrTedros
"The Access to #COVID19 Tools Accelerator @ACTAccelerator currently faces a funding gap of USD19 billion, and we estimate that we will need a further USD35 to 45 billion next year to vaccinate most adults around the world."-@DrTedros
"The #G7 countries could mobilize a substantial portion of these funds themselves, and lead a global effort to accelerate #COVID19 vaccination around the world."-@DrTedros
"We face a shared threat that we can only overcome with shared solutions:
๐ต Sharing financial resources;
๐ Sharing vaccine doses and production capacity;
๐ฌ Sharing technology, know-how and waiving intellectual property."-@DrTedros
"Today itโs my great honour to be joined by @GordonBrown, the former Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer of the United Kingdom."-@DrTedros
"As Prime Minister, @GordonBrown hosted the #G20 Summit in 2009, when under his leadership the G20 countries committed to making an additional USD1.1 trillion available to alleviate the most acute economic crisis since the Great Depression."-@DrTedros
โWe now face an even more severe crisis, and we need the same kind of leadership.
Gordon, thank you so much for your leadership, and thank you for joining us today. You have the floor.โ-@DrTedros #COVID19
"Thank you Gordon, and thank you once again for your clear and powerful call to world leaders."-@DrTedros
"Finally, I would like to recognize three important days that we are observing this week.
First, today is #WorldPressFreedomDay.
WHO values the role of a free and fair press in informing the public and in holding governments and institutions accountable."-@DrTedros
"Second, Wednesday marks World #HandHygiene Day, a reminder that clean hands save lives."-@DrTedros
"Third, Wednesday also marks the International Day of the #Midwife, an opportunity to celebrate the vital role that midwives play every day of every year, and especially during the past year."-@DrTedros

"#Germany๐ฉ๐ช has been a steadfast partner to WHO for many years, but especially during the past year.
And I have personally appreciated the strong leadership of Her Excellency Angela Merkel, the Chancellor of Germany."-@DrTedros
"In my first week as Director-General in 2017, I had the honour of attending the #G20 Summit in Hamburg, where under Chancellor Merkelโs leadership, #Germany๐ฉ๐ช put a very strong emphasis on health and emergency preparedness, years before #COVID19."-@DrTedros
#Asthma is a common lung ๐ซ condition that causes intermittent breathing difficulties. It often starts in childhood, although it can also develop in adults, and affects people of all ages.
During an asthma attack, these symptoms become much worse. Asthma attacks can be fatal but are largely preventable and manageable.
#Asthma cannot be cured, but good management with inhaled medications can control the disease and enable people with asthma to enjoy a normal, active life.
Midwives are fundamental to ending preventable maternal & newborn deaths. But the world still needs 9โฃ0โฃ0โฃ0โฃ0โฃ0โฃ more midwives to save lives of moms ๐คฐ and babies ๐ถ.
The latest data from the State of Worldโs Midwifery report shows the shortage of #midwives is most critical in 8โฃ8โฃ low- & middle- income countries where 9โฃ5โฃ% of ๐ maternal/newborn deaths & stillbirths occur.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, governments must ensure #midwives are protected with adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) & prioritized for #COVID19 vaccines.
๐ WHO/@UNICEF report sets out monitoring recommendations to help billions of people around the ๐๐๐ get access to affordable water supply, sanitation & hygiene (#WASH) services.
Everyone, everywhere can support the vaccines initiative #COVAX to help:
โ vaccinate the world ๐๐๐
โ achieve #VaccinEquity โ๏ธ
โ end the #COVID19 pandemic ๐
#COVAX is the vaccines โpillarโ of the @ACTAccelerator. It is driving #VaccinEquity by working to deliver at least 2 billion doses in 2021, with a special mechanism to provide access to vaccines for lower income countries.
The first international delivery of #COVID19 vaccines from #COVAX arrived in #Ghana ๐ฌ๐ญ in February 2021, with essential workers & other at-risk groups prioritized in the roll-out. Worldwide, over 49 million doses have been distributed so far.
