Yesterday, Iceland's government convened for the first time after the summer break.

At midnight the next day, the government has fallen.

This one... is going to require some context.

Throughout the summer, it's been coming to light that the government has been as-good-as-secretly pardoning child molesters. Seriously.

This has provoked a lot of discussion and questions about the archaic nature of pardons and the cruelty towards the victims...

...but the questions REALLY got iffy when suddenly half the government decided it wanted to outright cover up any investigation into it.

Specifically, the conservative half.

You get no price for guessing.

Here's how it works: Members of the public can IN SECRET recommend people for the honor of a pardon. It is then granted on discretion.

The investigation initially was about revealing - ONLY TO MEMBERS OF ALTHING - the names of those who had recommended the pardons.

Almost immediately, two-thirds of the investigative team refuses to even look at the names. At all.

Only yesterday, hours after the Prime Minister's opening speech, we learn why: The Prime Minister's father is on the list of recommenders.

So to recap: The PRIME MINISTER'S FATHER has been party to granting OFFICIAL LEGAL PARDON to CHILD MOLESTERS.

And here's the kicker: the reason the teams didn't want to even see the names is, they already knew. They were protecting themselves.

They wanted total deniability to knowing that family members of Althing members were basically using family connections in this way.

Instead, might I remind you, of keeping child molesters unpardoned.

Who went on to break the law again, I might add.

At midnight, the centrist-left party holding the current coalition together immediately resigned from government, thus disbanding it.

They specifically chose midnight, even though it seems fast, because then they can say clearly that they left the same day they knew!

Earlier this summer, a writer said it smelled of conspiracy to protect child molesters reaching to the highest level of government.

He was 100 PERCENT SPOT THE FUCK ON.

The Prime Minister's father, for the record, has said he "just" helped a "distant" relative get pardoned. Also gave him money. And a job.

"Helped", in part, by getting his son - the Prime Minister of Iceland - to sign off on the whole plan.

Boom goes the government.

They. Show. Zero. Remorse. Or understanding. Of what. They did.

Iceland has uncovered an actual criminal conspiracy to pardon child molesters that went to the actual top administrative official we have.

To say that I am disappointed or angry is... an understatement.

To say I am surprised, though? A lie.

The full extent of the coverup is unknown. What we do know:

-The prime minister is involved.
-There were multiple internal gag orders.
-Near the entire conservative government knew.

(Conservative government meaning, the members of the conservative parties in the coalition.)

And here's the saddest fucking fact of all:

I predict 30% of Iceland will vote for them again. Just like always.

But now we're facing a totally collapsed government, at the beginning of the new fiscal year, in a time of economic swings. ELECTION TIME!
