1/ Two things: We have WH visitor logs Trump admin didn’t want you to see (@PropOTP sued to get them). propub.li/2mPqwAN

Using the logs, we found that the influential OMB director’s door is open to corporate & conservative interests. propub.li/2zWgF1r

Want details?
2/ Let’s examine that open policy through Mick Mulvaney, the guy who runs the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

He is the driving force behind the president’s budget and influences regulations and government procurement.

3/ It’s probably a good idea, if you’re a lobbying firm, to have access to Mulvaney.

After examining the visitor logs, we found Al Simpson, Mulvaney’s former congressional chief of staff.

4/ The lobbying firm Mercury hired Simpson. And so far, Simpson had 7 meetings and a phone call with Mulvaney in a 4-month period.

And he appears on Mulvaney’s calendars more frequently than anyone who is not a current gov’t official. propub.li/2zXqdJN
5/ These companies paid for Mercury’s lobbying services and then met with Mulvaney:
6/ Mercury client:

9/ The firm says it “fully complies with all registration and disclosure requirements when representing clients.”
10/ Ok.

So, who else did Mulvaney meet with?

Well…
11/ The billionaires club of Bill Gates, medical entrepreneur Patrick Soon-Shiong, Charles Schwab and Trump friend and casino magnate Steve Wynn. propub.li/2zYjSgZ
12/ Koch Industry lobbyists Brian Henneberry and Raymond Paul. propub.li/2zXqdJN
13/ He met with cryptocurrency evangelist Valery Vavilov. Seems odd? Well, when Mulvaney was still in Congress last year, he co-founded a “blockchain caucus” to promote the technology behind Bitcoin. propub.li/2zXqdJN
14/ Jeff Bell is a former Reagan aide who is marked on the calendar as being with the Catholic group Opus Dei. Bell told ProPublica that his March meeting with Mulvaney, a Catholic, covered “religious and political matters” but declined to comment further. propub.li/2zXqdJN
15/ Eugene Scalia is the son of the late Supreme Court justice and a prominent lawyer at Gibson Dunn. At the time, Scalia was representing business groups that wanted OMB to delay the implementation of a regulation known as the fiduciary rule. propub.li/2zXqdJN
16/ And donors. For example, he met with Dan Adams, CEO of The Capital Corporation and a player in the payday lending industry, who donated $12,400 to Mulvaney’s campaigns since 2010. propub.li/2zXqdJN
17/ Is this any different? Well, Mulvaney met with few, if any, consumer groups. That’s in contrast to Obama’s first OMB director, Peter Orszag, whose visitor logs show meetings with both a long string of corporate executives as well as philanthropic and consumer representatives.
