Tomorrow’s reading:
☐ Tue., Nov 28 — Isaiah 3–6
We are listening for echos of a coming King, what do we see?

#IsaiahChristmas

Israel remains functionally kingless. Israel is blind to God. Isaiah beholds a King.
Ch3–4: Israel’s wicked practices are blood on the hands of its leaders. Men are not free from accountability, and “infants shall rule over them.” A crisis of rulership has gripped the people, social chaos ensues. But a Branch-King is coming to lead. An infant perhaps?
Ch5: Jerusalem is God’s vineyard, the focus of his patient labors and affection. But the labor produced bad fruit, and desolation. The people once consumed with personal wealth and comfort and (paradoxically) drunkenness, despise God’s word, which feeds the social injustices.
Ch6: Isaiah enters the quaking throne room of the thrice-holy King, and his eyes “have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!” (6:5). There his sin is atoned for and his guilt removed, and he is commissioned as the truth-giver who will speak (and be rejected).
