1/ This is what happens with a poorly thought-out article like the NYT article on Dec 30, which appeared to make the Papadopoulos story central to the FBI’s investigations.tinyurl.com/yc5ekk6q
2/ The Papadopoulos hacked-email story is indeed very important, but it was certainly not crucial to the decision to start the FBI and USIC investigations into possible Trump-Russia collusion.
3/ As I’ve pointed out repeatedly, the first known investigation (a mult-iagency and multinational one) was initiated by then-Director of the CIA John Brennan in April of 2016. (The FBI was one of the agencies involved.)
4/ There is absolutely no reason to think that Papadopoulos had anything to do with the initiation of that investigation.
5/ @NatashaBertrand, who has done a superb job of covering RussiaGate from the beginning, has even placed Papadopoulos at the center of the Simpson-Fritsch op-ed in the NYT yesterday--tinyurl.com/yd6dltvm
