In 2001, a series of earthquakes devastated El Salvador. In response to this disaster the U.S. granted Salvadorans affected by the earthquakes temporary protected status. These families have lived in the U.S. for almost 20 years and contributed to our society and economy.
For many of their children, America may be the only home they know. Ending this program and forcing them to leave or face deportation is not only cruel, but unnecessary.
It will force people into the shadows and tear families apart. They are our neighbors and friends, and an essential part of the rich tapestry of this nation.
