Republicans are pushing a sham redistricting plan that could result in a 12/3 gerrymandered Republican majority in a state that is generally 49.7% R and 47.9% D. The @OhFairDistricts ballot measure is estimated to result in a much fairer 8/7 split. Thread:
Their goal is to put the measure on the ballot for the May primary to derail the @OhFairDistricts effort. The ultimate goal is not to actually fix the problem (that's not what Republicans actually do), but instead to maintain their corrupt gerrymandering practices
Practices that make our elections non-competitive, our politics more extreme, and our country more divided.
They need a 60% majority vote in both the Ohio House of Reps and the Ohio Senate in order to get the measure on the ballot. 60 house Reps and 20 Senators. There are 64 GOP House Reps and 24 GOP Senators, which means we need to convince 5 reps or 5 senators to vote "no".
They will be working on the legislation and will likely try to jam this through as quickly as possible, which means we have to act quickly to push back.
There are 4 house reps in Butler Co. (Yes, the state seats are still gerrymandered also. The measure passed in 2015 won't fix that until 2020)

Wes Retherford (R)(614) 644-6721
George F. Lang (R)(614) 466-8550
Candice Keller (R)(614) 644-5094
Paul Zeltwanger (R)(614) 644-6027
There are also 2 Senators representing different parts of Butler Co.

William Colely (R) (614) 466-8072
Steve Wilson (R) (614) 466-9737
You can look up who your state reps are based on your address by going to this site: legislature.ohio.gov/legislators/fi…
Please take some time to call your reps multiple times over the next couple days to urge them to vote against this bill that is a thinly veiled attempt to block a real solution to our gerrymandering problem.
Let them know that you are watching them closely and will be voting in the election later this year. Note: ALL house reps are up for re-election in Nov., and many Senators are also.
Also make sure to call the chair of the working group Rep. Kirk Schuring at 614-752-2438 and the other GOP member of the working group Sen. Huffman at 614-466-7584
A few talking points:

Voters want real reform. The proposal must ensure bipartisan map-making.

Communities should be kept together. Large counties deserve protection just as much as small counties.
We need a more public process and would like to see proposals in writing so that experts and the public can weigh in on a change to the Ohio Constitution.

Districts show not be allowed to favor a candidate or political party.
Tell your friends and family to call as well. We need all hands on deck!
