1)Less known wonders of Sirpur, Chhattisgarh
Pyramidal Shiva Temple of Suranga-Tila
This is built on high terraced pyramidal plinth accessed by a broad stepped-way. Temple was rectangular in plan having shrines on three sides with a common hall of which now only pillar remains.
2)Cunningham informs that its name came from 'Sabaripura' named after 'Shabari' of Ramayana. It seems less likely. It served as capital of Dakshina Kosala kingdom for 400years under Sarabhapuria and Panduvamshi kings.
Lakshamana brick temple dating back to ~7th century CE
3) Huen Tsang tells us that there were some 10000 Bhikshu living in 100+ monasteries and there were over 100temples.
First, MahishasuraMardini
Second, Hariti
4)Excavation after 2003 yielded large number of temples. Excavation from palace of Balarjun also yielded a iron face mask made of superior quality steel that has not rusted over a period of 1500years. Says enough about ancient metallurgical knowledge.
5) an old photograph of Lakshman Temple, Sirpur
The square sanctuary is covered by a curved tower which has preserved its brick mouldings, the corner amalakas and the arched motifs in the central projections. The sanctuary walls have blind doorways on three sides. #WalktoTemple
6) A panel from Vihara narrating story from Panchatantra
Another relief depicting Agni(?). Note Mesha(Ram) at the bottom
The region was plundered by the armies of Delhi Sultanate and later Deccan Sultanates. The town and temples were destroyed and were abandoned later.
7) Remains of ancient Ram Temple, built using bricks, Sirpur(Chhattisgarh)
Dated: 6-7th century CE
Note elegant brick mouldings similar to Kalinga Temples, one of the finest.
Note knot pattern from terraced temple.

8)Few more photos elucidating details of the brick Vimana of Lakshman Temple in Sirpur.
Note cusped arch with lotus motif. Note Makara arch motifs, also used in SI temples. Note the Kuta(s) topped by Amalaka at the corners, same composition can be seen in SI Temples(with dome).
