Imagine if all the resources and energy we're all currently spending on Brexit was being spent actually fixing the problems that made people vote Brexit.
Imagine if we invested in Northern infrastructure and gave tax incentives to businesses who employ people in Northern town and cities?
Imagine if we raised taxes on the largest corporations so we could fund our NHS and pay our doctors, rather than lowering the rights of the EU doctors keeping the NHS afloat.
Imagine if we invested in making a success of integration in non-metropolitan areas too.
Imagine if we told citizens how their vote shapes EU policy and how to keep tabs on the EU Parliament and the Commission.

Imagine if voter turnout was higher than the 35% it was at the last European elections and we weren't represented in Europe by people like Farage and therefore could actually use the fact that we have 10% of the EU's MEPs to be truly influential and take charge in Europe.
Imagine if the UK didn't have a First-Past-The-Post system which leaves people feeling trapped and unable to truly back the party that represents them.

One reason why the Brexit debate is now so aggressive is because MPs like Andrea Leadsom keep saying that letting the people vote on a deal which POLITICIANS are responsible for, and which even Brexit voters hate, somehow means Remainers are calling Brexit voters stupid. #Peston
Let's say:
1⃣I hate our current relationship with the rest of the EU
2⃣I vote to end that relationship
3⃣The government negotiates a new relationship
4⃣I think it's worse than the old one
5⃣I vote to stick with the old one.
Does that make me 'stupid' or just not psychic?

#brexit seems to be all about feeling over fact and this is especially true of the ReesMogg ERG faction of the Tory right.
I never bought the line that #brexit is about Democracy because most of the Tory right had zero enthusiasm for improving democracy in the UK few of them care about unelected house of lords the unfair FPTP electoral system or transparency on the contrary
Most of the Tory right are interested only in constitutional changes that suit them and if anything strive to be as little democratically accountable as possible.

1. Before #EURef I knew little about EU. Decades of negative UK media had made me a bit sceptical. But I was not really “political”.
2. Got a Polish partner. Been together 18 years. Long before #EURef she’d started getting snarky comments from folks about being “over here” & “going home” etc. This got steadily worse & was kinda shocking.

1) Just so everyone is clear, the #Brexit that May is proposing, even if she gets it, is pretty much pointless.
We'll be a little bit poorer, won't have any additional "control" to speak of, and will carry on paying for the privilege.
2) the new FTAs, if they appear, will have minimal impact but most likely the public will argue against them in a "Britain first" kind of way.

The question from the Belgian journalist to May of "is it worth it?" will be the question everyone outside the UK will be asking
3) Absolutely no-one will be happy with the #Brexit outcome save a few idiots who only care about the symbolism of leaving. Certainly it won't resemble anything like "what we voted for", whatever that was, because it'll be a new, flawed, contradictory & compromised Brexit

I'm currently at this #Brexit conference in Copenhagen, where the British ambassador and several #DExEU officials will be on panels with representatives of Danish trade and security. It'll be very interesting to see what's said, especially in light of May's recent Munich speech.
And now that I'm not desperately trying to keep up with livetweeting it, I shall turn my mess of self-retweets into a proper thread. #Brexit #BrexitDK
acknowledges #Brexit will have challenges; emphasises no naïveté regarding "land of milk and honey". Refreshing sense of pragmatism; we'll see how #DExEU and DK reps present it.
