After reading a lot of student dissertations/theses recently - some thoughts on writing discussion sections/chapters in qual reports, & particularly reports of #thematicanalysis. Often the trickiest part of a diss as we have run out of steam & have no idea what to say!
Discussions (conventional ones at least) are tricky because they are both formulaic (evaluate the study, make suggestions for future research) and also very open - there's lots of scope to choose what to focus on beyond the expected content. Some things to avoid first.
When making suggestions for future research - don't switch on the random ideas generator! The suggestions should *arise* from yr research. The limitations of your sample is often the go-to choice here but explain why it would be interesting to talk to other groups.

THREAD: There’s a commonly held view that nuclear power and wind & solar mix like oil and water. Inflexible, always-on nuclear, the idea goes, is ill-suited for a world where wind and solar output vary on timescales ranging from seconds to hours to seasons. 1/
In reality, while nuclear plants traditionally provide steady output 24-7, reactors are technically capable of much greater flexibility and can dynamically adjust their power output to respond to changing electricity prices and second-to-second frequency regulation needs. 2/

2⃣I started with a disclosure of everyone I've voted for in presidential elections since 1988. I also included who I supported in 1980 (John Anderson, of course), the first election I can remember actually following, when I was 12 and in 7th grade.
3⃣I start with the Wikileaks releases of John Podesta's emails in 2016.
I turned up in them. I know. It's nuts.
In them a staffer at the Center for American Progress emailed Podesta and billionaire Tom Steyer to brag about getting me removed as a writer for Nate Silver's 538.

I don't know who wrote this but this is absolutely false and deeply embarrassing for @SMC_London: sciencemediacentre.org/cfsme-the-illn… which has shown again and again that it has absolutely no respect for science and is willing to mislead the media by promoting pseudoscience.
First, on the idea that is is somehow a battle between the medical community and "campaigners..."
